Tonya Maria Taylor-Dorsey

Pianist/Composer

Tonya Dorsey has been composing and arranging musical compositions for more than 20
years. She has successfully united her classical background with her appreciation for R&B and
gospel, to create her own unique style of worship music that has appealed to lovers of
Traditional Christian and Contemporary Gospel Genres.

An accomplished pianist and choir director, Tonya has directed the acclaimed Hope Singers of
Philadelphia and is credited with creating all of the music for their debut Cd Recording, Tonya
Dorsey & The Hope Singers. In 2008 and 2007, she was the guest conductor of the St. Martin
de Porres Cathedral Choir’s annual mass held at The Cathedral Basilica of Ss Peter and Paul
in Philadelphia. Tonya was also guest conductor of the Women’s Symposium Choir in 2007 at
the Historic St. Peter Claver Center for Evangelization. She has served as guest conductor to
New Spirit Presbyterian Church, and has directed the choirs of Pinn Memorial Baptist Church,
and Trinity A.M.E. Church, all located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her ability to take choirs to
their full potential is evident by the high demand in which she is sought.

Tonya’s desire to honor God inspired her to create Tonya Dorsey and New Vision A NJ
Nonprofit foundation which serves to provide scholarships to children in the musical arts. New
Vision, the choir, was also created and performs the original musical works of Tonya and
always sings to ‘standing room’ only audiences. In March 2009, Tonya Dorsey and New Vision
performed the music for the annual mass for the disabled held at the Cathedral Basilica of Ss
Peter and Paul in Philadelphia. And, in October 2009, this acclaimed group provided the music
for the annual Red Mass held at the cathedral for the Judges and Attorneys of Philadelphia.
Most recently, Tonya was honored to be a featured composer at a Juilliard recital in New York
City.

In addition to her musical creativity, Tonya is also a published writer of poetry and fiction, and
has won several awards for her work in prose. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from
The University of Texas at San Antonio.

Tonya lives in Williamstown, New Jersey with her husband, Ronald and son, Roderick. She is
